Meta's Threads Hits 500 Million Users, Challenges X
Instagram's text-based platform reaches major milestone as users flee Elon Musk's troubled social network.
Meta's Threads has reached 500 million monthly active users, cementing its position as a serious challenger to Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter).
The text-based social platform has benefited from continued controversy at X and Meta's ability to leverage Instagram's massive user base for distribution. Engagement metrics have improved significantly since launch.
"Threads has become a meaningful part of the social media landscape," said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. "We're investing heavily in the creator tools and features our users are asking for."
Meta shares rose 3% on the announcement as analysts raised estimates for the company's advertising revenue growth.
