Myanmar Resistance Forces Capture Key Border Town
Anti-junta coalition makes significant territorial gains as military regime loses control of strategic areas near China border.
Resistance forces in Myanmar have captured Laukkaing, a strategically important town near the Chinese border, marking one of the biggest territorial losses for the military junta since seizing power in 2021.
The Three Brotherhood Alliance, comprising ethnic armed groups and pro-democracy fighters, now controls significant portions of northeastern Myanmar. The military's response has been hampered by defections and low morale.
"The junta is losing its grip on power," said a Myanmar analyst. "These territorial losses are accelerating, and the military is struggling to respond effectively."
China has expressed concern about instability along its border and called for all parties to pursue a peaceful resolution.
