Sudan Civil War Creates World's Largest Humanitarian Crisis
UN declares Sudan situation 'catastrophic' as fighting displaces 10 million people and famine spreads across the country.
The United Nations has declared Sudan's civil war the world's largest humanitarian crisis, with over 10 million people displaced and famine conditions spreading across multiple regions.
Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has intensified in recent weeks, with both sides accused of targeting civilians and blocking aid deliveries.
"What we're witnessing in Sudan is a catastrophe of historic proportions," said the UN humanitarian chief. "The international community must act now to prevent mass starvation."
Aid organizations report that over 25 million Sudanese require humanitarian assistance, but security conditions have made delivery nearly impossible in many areas.
